Moda Sampler Block Shuffle Blocks 7-9

Are you shuffling with us..........

JOIN with us as we follow along with Moda's Sampler Block Shuffle. We are in the third week. It is not too late to begin your blocks.

We will post our blocks on instagram and our blog. Each week Moda will provide 3 free block patterns with tips and teaching tools. Sharpen you skills and techniques.

At the finish you will have 30 blocks and 132 Flying Geese to shuffle into your favorite arrangement.

Each pattern will be available to download for 2 weeks after it is posted. Each week we will post new patterns for you. Make sure you come back each week for the new pattern cards. If you can't sew your blocks this week, make sure to download or print the patterns.

Moda Sampler Shuffle Blocks 4-6

Still Shuffling! Join in the fun...

JOIN with us as we follow along with Moda's Sampler Block Shuffle. We are in the second week. It is not too late to begin your blocks.

Block 4 Pattern

Block 5 Pattern

Note if you have a directional fabric like I did. Cut all of your squares the same direction. When you sew the half-square triangles, stitch them all in the same diagonal direction. Then when you arrange them, the directional print will point towards the center (or away from the center). Fussy cut if you the directional prints in a specific direction.

Block 6 Pattern

Flying Geese Border Pattern link. Make a set with each block and you will be almost finished when you complete your blocks. Watch this week for another post of flying geese for the inner border. I can show you some fun options with less waste.

Hints or Helps:
Block 4 is another good block to test your 1/4" seams. And make sure they are straight. I really have to watch to make sure that the last part of the seam is straight till the very end of your rectangles.

Block 4 - press the seams to the darkest print if you are using 1 light and 1 dark print. All your seams with "nestle" together perfectly.

Block 5 - Square up those corner half square triangles before you sew the block together. This takes just a minute and saves you from wonky blocks.

Block 6 - These Flying Geese units are made with corner squares sewn on the angle. Make sure you stitch straight from corner to corner to avoid curved flying geese.

Moda Sampler Block Shuffle - Blocks 1-3

It is time to shuffle....

We are loving this Gardenvale by Jen Kingwell with a pin dot background. Jen Kingwell fans will love these blocks.

JOIN with us beginning today as we follow along with Moda's Sampler Block Shuffle. We will post our blocks on instagram and our blog. Each week Moda will provide 2 -3 free block patterns with tips and teaching tools. Sharpen you skills and techniques.

At the finish you will have 30 blocks and 132 Flying Geese to shuffle into your favorite arrangement.

Hints or Helps:
Did you notice the color layout possibilities at the bottom of each pattern card?

Check the accuracy of your 1/4" piecing: Cut 2 small scrap strips that measure exactly 1½" wide, sew them together. Press. The scrap should measure 2½" after pressing. How did you do?

Pressing seams open may help with smaller blocks with multiple seams.

Each block should now be 6 1/2" square (It will be 6" finished when sewn together in your quilt).

After looking at my finished blocks, I think I may "fussy cut" a few squares in the future. A green leaf gives the appearance that my coral pinwheel is squred off. oooops.

Moda Shuffle Sampler Block Quilt Along begins Nov 1st

JOIN us Nov 1st as we follow along with Moda's Sampler Block Shuffle. We will post our blocks on Instagram and this blog. Each week Moda will provide 2 -3 free block patterns with tips and teaching tools. Sharpen you skills and techniques.

At the finish you will have 30 blocks and 132 Flying Geese to "shuffle" into a design of your choosing OR to "shuffle" them into an arrangement seen in the quilt shown above.

The arrangement of these blocks and flying geese will be up to you.

You can "shuffle" them as the quilt pictured above or come up with your own design.

We will be offering 5 of the Moda Sampler Block Shuffle Kits with various fabric collections for $88.00.

Moda sugguests to begin with a Layer Cake, Jelly Roll and a few F8ths or FQ's for variation. We have put together some collections from different artists.

Your block kit will include:
Free PDF downloadable patterns each week
1 Gardenvale Layer Cake or 42 !0" squares
1 Gardenvale Jelly Roll or 40 2.5" strips
$10 worth of additional FQ's or F8's to add to your blocks for variety

The Moda Sampler Block Shuffle finishing Kit will be $48.13 and will be sold separately. This is for the large setting squares, triangles, borders and binding as seen in the horizontal color block/border stripes as seen in the top picture. We will offer kits for the Joyeaux Noel, Gardenvale, and the Miss Kate/Hello Darling Collections. For the Aloha and Simply Colorful kits you will need to purchase your own fabrics.

Remember to send us pictures of your blocks and we will post them as we sew along.

Remember how fun these Quilt Alongs can be? I just finished the binding on my Apple Pie Quilt.
I love the cheeriness of this quilt. I learned so much from sewing each block, putting them on point, and piecing the sashing strips. The Moda Sampler Shuffle Block quilt will be a fun experience too!
