We are HAPPY to announce that we now carry Jiggybars

Here is the story behind how this all began...

Beautiful Jocie

A beautiful spring day in March 2008 tragically changed our family forever.  Our adorable 15 year old daughter Jocie heartbreakingly passed away in a skiing accident in Northern Utah.  Only those that have experienced the dark mourning that comes with losing a child can understand the helpless, senseless, haunting feeling that follows you like a dark shadow.  I had this desire, an unquenchable thirst to somehow memorialize our beloved daughter. During this initial phase of mourning, for an unknown reason I became attracted to and started keeping bees. Observing a thriving, living, active colony of bees was both therapeutic and healing. I honestly believe the bees saved me.
In addition to delicious honey, my first harvest also produced a considerable amount of pure golden beeswax which intrigued me. Jocie who was well known by her nickname” Jiggy”, constantly carried a tube of lip balm with her.  And just like that…jiggystick was created!

Memorial Jiggysticks

Along with producing great lip balm, part of the jiggystick vision is to memorialize young children that have passed away too soon...providing some small level of comfort for mourning friends and family.  Periodically we will produce and donate a special run of jiggystick dedicated to the memory of a lost loved one. This typically occurs on a marked memorial date like birthdays, anniversaries, etc.  Jiggystick is honored to have been a part of “Huckleberry Hike” dedicated to Parker Bradford and “Maddie Mango” dedicated to Madison Kimball.

Save the bees...

As lovers of all things bees, Jiggystick will donate a portion of our annual profits towards colony collapse disorder research and placing beehives in 3rd world countries.

(My daughters loved it when they received look alike dolls).   What a wonderful birthday surprise.  We also love love the fun hair accessories.  Barb says on her shop "started making hair clips for Lucy because I am somewhat particular about having a clip to match her clothes, but I was tired of the same old bows that the local stores had to offer. With all the materials I acquired, it was only natural that I would start to make clips for others."
To visit Barb in her Etsy shop CLICK HERE   To find out more about Lucy and SMA and how you can help, visit her blog CLICK HERE  Best wishes, love, and prayers to Lucy and her family!  They also have a facebook page!  Thanks Barb for sharing!

Half Hexie Quilt Pictures

My Hexagon Quilt pictures as promised.  I have been following the Hexie by Halves Quilt Along by Polly over at Pieces by Polly blog.  This fabric collection is Odds and Ends by Julie Comstock of Cosmo Cricket for Moda.  I used a layer cake plus 4 quarter yards for additional hexagons. I followed Polly's directions but used the Hexie Half ruler for 10" squares - which I purchased months ago and had not yet used.  If you do use a layer cake and the hexie half rulers, make sure to place the rulers to the far right or left of each 10" square so that you will have enough fabric for the front/back end pieces of each row (visible on left side of quilt).   I haven't trimmed the sides even yet because I am contemplating adding a border to make my quilt larger. We have tall people in my family!  Polly is just finishing up her pattern instructions.  CLICK HERE to find Polly's pattern.
Thank you Polly for your instructions and tutorial for this Quilt Along!

The Hexie Half Rulers are 3/8" smaller than Polly's instructions for a half hexagon, so I added an additional row to the side and two rows to the length.  If you follow Polly's template, a layer cake square will not be large enough.  You will definitely need to use her cutting instructions for the template or strip method.  The Hexagons will also be larger which is always nice.
Another picture to show you the rows - this quilt sews up quickly!

What I loved most about the rulers is the bottom corners are trimmed off.  When you match up the corners of the hexagon halves, they come together perfectly.  We just have a couple of these rulers left.  CLICK HERE to get yours.

Matching the hexagon seams was a breeze.  I would definitely make this quilt again.  In fact, I'm planning another one in blues and greens. This time, I think will use Polly's strip/ruler method so the Hexagons will end up a little larger. I love weekend quilts!

We have some wonderful new Layer Cakes in Stock that would be beautiful in this design.
Honeysweet Layer Cake by Fig Tree and Co just arrived last week.

Midwinter Reds by Minick & Simpson is one of our favorites. This would make a wonderful holiday quilt.
Josephine by French General is also brand new.  A gorgeous collection!

Scrumptious Layer Cake by Bonnie and Camille would be wonderfully bright and fun.

We also have so many new bundles and we would be happy to cut you 1/3 yard cuts of each print per Polly's instructions. Don't miss out. This pattern will only be available on Polly's blog for another week.
Happy Sewing!

Giddy Up Little Cowboy Quilt featured in Oct/Nov Issue of Quilt Magazine and Hexie Quilts

Giddy Up little cowboy quilt pattern is in the next issue of Quilt Magazine.  This pattern features the new Cuddle fabrics from Shannon Fabrics (we are always raving about their Cuddle Minky). These new fabrics have precise detail images printed on soft cuddly fabric.  We designed this quilt with these fabrics in mind, combining regular basic cotton and Cuddle.  The effect is so fun.  The stars pop off the quilt.  Leisha did a wonderful job echoing around the stars and quilting modern details in the borders.   Thanks again Leisha!

To purchase your kit CLICK HERE

Quilt Magazine has a wonderful website with lots of free patterns.  CLICK HERE to find their wonderful site.   I would recommend subscribing to the magazine.  For now you can purchase the Oct/Nov Quilt Magazine at your local magazine shop.  As soon as I receive some, I will make them available on our site.  They will be available at most grocery stores or magazine shops..  Pattern and Instructions will be included in the magazine.
They really do a wonderful job at Quilt Magazine with step-by-step instructions and colored illustrations. Thank you Linda Smoker for editing the pattern and adding the illustrations.  Your awesome!  Thank you Debra Finan for publishing this pattern.  Also, much thanks to Demetria Hayward of Shannon Fabrics who gave us the opportunity to play with these Cuddle fabrics.

You really need to see the wonderful pictures of this quilt in the magazine.  You will love the cute little cowboy pictures.

We choose the fun tan Horseshoe print for the back.  As you can see Leisha's quilting is awesome on the back of the quilt too.  She left the blue sashing without any quilting but quilted a close design in the tan border - the wonderful effect is that the blue sashing pops off the quilt.  The raised soft stars and sashing against the cotton is so fun.    How fun to combine traditional quilting with the new soft Cuddle fabrics!

HEXIE QUILT - free pattern and tutorial

Hexie Quilts have become really popular in the last few months.

Are you following Polly over at Pieces by Polly?  (formally HelpingLittleHands).   She is providing a wonderful tutorial on Hexie quilts using your ruler and strips of fabric.  She also has a template to use with your stash. She is already on Lesson 4 but you can back track and see all of the lessons!
Here is a link to lesson 4 CLICK HERE   She has links to LESSON 1 at the bottom of Lesson 4.
These lessons will only be available for free for the next couple of weeks.  You can still join.

We have some wonderful new bundles that would be perfect for those Hexie Quilts.
Here Fishy Fishy Fat Quarter Bundle by Heather Mulder Peterson of Anka's Treasures would be so fun!
Fashion Plate Fat Quarter Bundle by Barbara Jones of QuiltSoup for Henry Glass.  If you want to include the cute dress print, just cut each strip separately so that you can make sure the design is in the same direction.
Simply Style Half Yard Bundle of 17 in Teal, Green and Blue by V & Co for Moda

Wouldn't this Hexie print from Simply Style would make a great backing to your Hexie Quilt!

I meant to blog about this earlier, but I have been on vacation.  I am a little behind, but I am beginning my Hexie Quilt today.  Pictures are coming!  I will be using the template and a Layer Cake from my stash.   Remember Polly has a template you can download if you want to use your stash! These are wonderful lessons - with pictures and details!

We also sell the Hexie Half 10" and 5" Templates by Lori Holt of Bee in My Bonnet made by Riley Blake Designs.  Theses were specifically designed to fit your charm packs and layer cakes.   CLICK HERE to get your templates.

We also have several Moda Honeycomb Hexagon precuts.

The edges are all seared to prevent fraying.  There are several patterns available with these honeycombs.  You can also cut them in half crosswise and use Polly's method for piecing.

Remember the new Juggle pattern by Camille Roskelly of Thimble Blossoms.  CLICK HERE to find these quilt kits or patterns.

So many choices!  It's all good.

Happy sewing!
